After many years of development by Mike O' Sullivan, the approximately 80% scale Supermarine Aircraft Mk 26 Spitfire is now in production for the Australian and export market as a kit built aircraft.
Supermarine Aircraft's Mk26 kit is not produced in high volume. The smaller number of kits ensures a high product standard and good builder support. Staying close to the original unmistakable Spitfire lines, the new aircraft is a two-seater version of the proven Mk 25.
Engine options
Due to customer requirements for more power, Supermarine fitted the 240hp GM V-6 engine into a Spitfire 26 airframe.
The V6 engine is now available as a package using state of the art MoTeC engine management and has proven to be extremely good. The Mk 26 Spitfires with this option are a delight to fly, exhibiting very good performance and returning stunning fuel economy considering their performance. It has surpassed all expectation and is proving to be the engine of choice for most builders.
Other examples have been equipped with other available engines, such as the Czech inverted 6-cyl, six-litre LOM engine as fitted to Dave Austin's example below, while another aircraft (the subject to a flight-test article in "Pilot" magazine) has been fitted with a horizontally-opposed 6-cyl 220hp Franklin engine.

Spitfire 26B
Supermarine have begun construction of a new, slightly enlarged version of the Mk.26. Dubbed the Mk.26B, the new aircraft retains the same wings and tail as its predecessor, but has a fuselage 14ins longer, 5ins wider and 4ins taller, making the cockpit much roomier - particularly for your passenger.
